Read just for fun! And if you like setting goals, many libraries have summer reading programs that reward you with prizes.
If you want to write:
- Read for enjoyment. You'll notice how authors use different kinds of words - nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, figures of speech. Different authors may become your favorites, too.
- Keep a journal of your experiences. Even the simplest event can be a great subject to write about. Start with something funny that happened to you, or another kind of memory. See my MORE page for some personal experiences I wrote about that were published.
- School is a great place to learn about writing, whether you go to a local school or are home-schooled. Try entering writing contests. Your school district may sponsor one.
- Maybe you will want to take a writing course or sign up for workshops.
